PEN Turkey grants 2022 Duygu Asena Award to Uçan Süpürge
PEN Turkey Writers' Association has granted its 2022 Duygu Asena Women's Rights Award to Uçan Süpürge (Flying Broom). “Never get off your flying brooms and always continue be witches,” PEN Turkey writes on its website.

“We present the award to a non-governmental organization that sets an example for many women with its stance and achievements: to Uçan Süpürge,” the statement of PEN Turkey says.
Uçan Süpürge (Flying Broom) started to operate on 13th November 1996 as a non-profit organization to create a change for everyone to achieve a just world where women are empowered and gender equality is ensured. It aims to raise awareness on many different issues such as violence, legal rights, and inequality of representation, visibility, production, and creation. It has held the first international women’s film festival in Turkey.
The award is named after Duygu Asena, a late feminist writer who pioneered the women's movement in Turkey in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
