News Center- Feride Rapo, a musician and member of the Hîlala Zêrîn Culture and Art Movement and Koma Amara, has released a music video called “Pelên Jiyanê (English: Leaves of Life) in memory of Cihan Bilgin and Nazım Daştan, two Kurdish journalists killed near the Tishreen Dam in a Turkish drone strike on December 19, 2024.
The song written and composed by Feride Rapo is dedicated to Cihan and Nazım, who reported the truth, as well as all the martyrs of the Free Press. “Journalists Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin, the truth seekers, were killed in the strike of the Turkish state on the Tishreen Dam and journalist Egîd Roj was then killed in another Turkish strike,” said Feride Rapo, pointing to the recent Turkish attacks targeting journalists in North and East Syria.
“Therefore, we would like to dedicate this song to the martyrs of the Free Press, especially in the persons of Nazım and Comrade Cihan.”
‘This song is also a self-criticism’
In recent years, many Kurdish journalists such as Nagîhan Akarsel, Gülistan Tara, Hêro Bahadîn, Nazım Daştan, Cihan Bilgin, Aziz Köylüoğlu and Egîd Roj have been killed in Turkish attacks on four parts of Kurdistan, Feride Rapo indicated and said, “Actually, this song is also a self-criticism because the Free Press and journalists reporting the truth have been targeted and attacked in recent years.”
