First Kurdish Book Fair ends

The first Kurdish Book Fair held in Qamishlo with the participation of many publishing houses to mark the Kurdish Language Day, celebrated every year on May 15, ended yesterday.

Qamishlo - The first Kurdish Book Fair held at the Mihemed Şêxo Culture and Art Center in the city of Qamishlo, northeastern Syria, ended yesterday.

More than 15 publishing houses participated in the three-day book fair sponsored by the Cultural Committee in the Cizre Region. Many writers signed their books at the book fair. The fair offered more than 10,000 Kurdish books to the readers.

“Our aim is not to sell books”

Şilêr Publishing House was one of the publishing houses that participated in the book fair. Zara Muhabed from Şilêr Publishing House said, “Our aim is not to sell books but to protect the Kurdish language, to emphasize the importance of writing and reading in our mother language.”
