Amed – The third of the film screenings organized as part of the "Purple Meridians" project, sponsored by Eurimages, in partnership with will be held in Amed by the Rosa Women's Association, in Barcelona by the Observatori de Vídeo No Identificat, and in Tulin by Streeen.org. The organizations will also hold a panel and workshop during the film screenings participated by women filmmakers. The aim of the project is to make films created by women filmmakers visible. As part of the project, the film screening to be organized by the Rosa Women's Association will be held at Mordem Art Center between January 15 and 16 in Amed (Diyarbakır). 18 films created by women filmmakers will be screened.

The Purple Meridians is a joint project by three organizations in Spain, Italy, and Turkey that brings together eighteen women filmmakers, six from each country, to debate the difficulties faced by women working in the filmmaking industry and wider screen sector. Adalet Kaya, the president of the Rosa Women’s Association, spoke to NuJINHA about the aim of the project. “This project has been conducted to raise awareness about the problems faced by women filmmakers in different countries,” Adalet Kaya told us.

“Art has an important role in society”

Stating that they, as the association, have supported the film screenings held in many countries, Adalet Kaya said, “We think that art has an important role in society. Making the problems faced by women visible through art is very important for us. We can reach women and men through films.”

“The aim is to make women's labor visible”

Pointing out that making women’s labor visible in the film industry dominated by men is very important, Adalet Kaya stated that creating films needs great efforts and technology. Underlining that building a space for women filmmakers is valuable; Adalet Kaya called on all women to participate in the two-day film screening.

Films tell the stories of women

“Women from three countries have worked hard to organize these activities,” Adalet Kaya said, “Women will see their own stories when they watch the films. All films to be screened tell the stories of women. We call on all women living in the city to participate in the film screening, panel, and workshop.”
