Hasekê- More than 39 million people in the world live in complete darkness. 284 million people are trying to maintain their lives as visually impaired. Diyana Hesarî is one of the million blind people. 18-year-old Diyana Hesarî lives in the Hasekê city of NE Syria.
She has turned her dark world into a colorful world with music. “I had many difficulties when I was a child. It was always dark. I had to ask for help from someone to meet my needs. But I grew up and learned how to meet my needs without any help. I couldn’t go to school because I didn't see anything. So I gave my full attention to music. I like music,” Diyana Hesarî told us.
Diyana Hesarî’s father brought a baglama (a musical instrument) for her when she was very young and she has played the baglama since then. She received a baglama course from Ferec Derwiş in 2018 and she has improved herself in playing baglama. “Actually, it was very difficult for me when I first started to take baglama lessons. I didn’t go to school so I had difficulties in taking lessons and everyone plays baglama by hearing and seeing but I tried to learn to play it by only hearing. Now, I can play it after facing many hard times. At the end of all the difficulties I went through, I realized that the disability is only about our body, not about our mind and wisdom.”
Music is like a friend for Diyana Hesarî now, “I will never leave it,” she said.
