Art workshop for young people in Makhmour restarted
The Martyr Avyan Buldan Workshop provides art courses such as craft and music courses to young people in Makhmour refugee camp.
Makhmour- The Young Women’s Movement opened a workshop named “Martyr Avyan Buldan Workshop” in the Makhmour Martyr Rustem Cudi Camp (Makhmour Refugee Camp) in 2020. However, the workshop was closed for a while due to the embargo imposed on the camp by the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). On December 20, 2023, the workshop was reopened. At the workshop, young people develop their craft skills and take courses such as saz, guitar and erbane.
We opened the workshop to support young people in developing their skills in art, said Roj Yıldıztan, a member of the Young Women’s Movement. “We do our best to promote our culture despite our limited opportunities. All young women and men can attend our courses to develop their skills. We started our erbane course on January 1. Young women should improve themselves to be independent in the future,” Roj Yıldıztan said.
‘Every course is important for our future’
Duygu Benek is one of the young women, who have attended the erbane course. She thinks that young women should stand on their own feet. “Every course is important for our future. At the beginning, we had difficulties but we never gave up and overcame them because we know that such courses are very important to build a future for ourselves.”
