Raqqa- The Conference on “Unity of Position” held in North and East Syria on August 8, 2025 represented all ethnic and religious identities of Syria, including the representatives of the Druze and Alawite communities.

Zeliha Abdi, Co-chair of the Education and Training Board in the Raqqa Canton, thinks that there are hidden hands behind the recent developments in Syria. “The jihadist group, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham’s takeover of Syria without the people's vote or approval shows that a game is played on the Syrian people.” Criticizing the constitutional declaration approved by the interim government, she said that a new constitution should be “drafted” with the participation of all Syrians.

“The ministries were not distributed fairly, and the Syrian National Dialogue Conference did not represent all ethnic and religious groups in Syria. This shows that the new regime implements the same policies of the old regime. Syria is a country where people from different ethnic and religious groups such as Kurds, Arabs, Circassians and Christians live together and they have the right to self-determination.”

Speaking about the Syrian civil war and violations against civilians since the takeover of HTS in Syria, she said, “The Syrian people paid the heaviest price in the civil war. They struggled, fought and sacrificed their lives to build a free Syria. However, the new regime has committed violations against the Alawite and the Druze communities.
