Qamishlo- The members of the Young Women’s Union expressed that they have improved their skills and personality after being members of the union. Speaking to NuJINHA about the aims of the union, they called on all young women to stand firm against the dirty methods of war policies.

“Our aim is to educate young people”

Sebah Saado, living in the Amudê town of Qamishlo, spoke about how the union was founded. “The Young Women’s Union was founded in 2016 to support, educate and organize young women in all spheres of life, including in culture and sports, because we know that young people are the basis of the development of societies,” she said.

“Young people are open to continuous improvement”

Adding that young people are the most open to improvement, particularly improvement of societies, Sebah Saado said, “In the past, young people were excluded from society. Our society did not believe that we could socially improve individuals. We did the opposite of what society thought. Young people, particularly young women, are open to continuous improvement.”

“The enemy is afraid of women”

Indicating that women are targeted because their strong will scares the enemy, Sebah Saado said, “As a member of the union, I work very hard to prove my position and improve it. We must remember that the enemy targets women because they are afraid of women fighters’ will and power.”

“Our unity empowers us”

Another member of the Young Women’s Union, Bêrîvan Mehmûd stated that she wants to know herself, her personality, cultural reality and everything related to Kurdish culture because, “The Kurdish women have been oppressed and humiliated for years by the patriarchal mentality. For this reason, we, Kurdish women, have been taken away from our reality. Being members of the union was an opportunity for us to improve ourselves. Our unity empowers us.”

Call on young women

Calling on all young women to be members of the union, Bêrîvan Mehmûd emphasized that when women discover their personality, they face many obstacles due to the patriarchal mentality. “Women face many obstacles but if young women become members of the union, they can obtain their rights and express their thoughts.”

“The slogan Jin, Jiyan, Azadi makes its mark in history”

Recalling that the slogan “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” has already made its mark in history, Can Welat, member of the Young Women’s Union, said that she became a member of the union to fight the patriarchal mentality. “I am against the patriarchal mentality that deprives women of their most fundamental rights and puts them in the background. We must fight to overcome all obstacles. We must promote the philosophy of Jin, Jiyan, Azadî all around the world.”
