Hasakah-On August 25, the General Command of Internal Security Forces in North and East Syria announced the launch of the second phase of the “Humanitarian and Security Operation” in al-Hol camp against ISIS sleeper cells in the camp with the support of the Women’s Defense Units (YPJ), Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Anti-Terror Units (YAT). The phase has entered its 13th day today. On the 11th and 12th days of the phase, 23 members of ISIS sleeper cells, including six women, were arrested. The Internal Security Forces also discovered seven trenches, and eight tents used by the members of ISIS in the camp. Four grenades, 388 bullets, four military bags, cell phone cards and laptops were seized. NuJINHA spoke to the Anti-Terror Units (YAT) member Awaz Hesekê about the 13th day of the phase.
“Several tunnels and trenches have been found”
Reporting that they found military-used supplies and technical materials in the trenches several days ago, Awaz Hesekê said, “We found laptops, cell phone cards, food and bullets in the trenches. During the search in the tents, children did the AKP-MHP sign. We can say that children in the camp are raised with the ISIS mentality. We can see the relationship between ISIS and Turkey very well. Every day, the relationship between ISIS members and the invaders is becoming more and more obvious. A generation is growing up here and this generation poses a risk for the whole world. Each new generation is more dangerous than the previous one.”
“The tents used for torture were removed”
Underlining that ISIS members used several tents to torture women, Awaz Hesekê added, “Some tents that were used by ISIS member to torture women were removed and the women, who were subjected to torture, were rescued. These women had asked help; however, their neighbors could not help them in fear of being tortured by ISIS member.”
“We aim to get the cells out of the camp”
Emphasizing that their main aim is to get the ISIS sleeper cells out of the camp, Awaz Hesekê said, “Our aim is to find the gun silencers used to kill women in the camp. Until now, we have found some bullets and many grenades. However, there are still active sleeper cells in the camp. We aim to save women and children from ISIS in the camp.”
