‘Women’s House’ opened in Mergeda
A “Women's House" was opened in the Mergeda town of Hasakah Canton, where mostly Arabs live. “Women suffered. Now, they deserve to have a safe and peaceful life.”
Hasakah- In 2017, the Mergada town of Hasakah Canton was liberated from ISIS by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). Kongra Star, the umbrella organization of all women’s organizations in North and East Syria, opened a “Women’s House” in the town, where mostly Arabs live, to ensure gender equality.
‘Women deserve to have a safe and peaceful life’
The opening ceremony was attended by many women, including coordinating members of Kongra Star of Hasakah Canton, members of the women’s houses in different parts of North and East Syria, women’s assemblies, many NGOs and members and executives of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES). After staging a minute's silence for those who lost their lives while fighting for freedom, Emira El-Seed, coordinating member of Kongra Star in the town of Shedadê, made the opening speech. Pointing to the achievements gained by women thanks to the ideology and the philosophy of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan, she said, “Women suffered a lot. Now, they deserve to have a safe and peaceful life.”
‘We are opening the Women’s House thanks to the resistance of women and men’
Reem Mahmoud, coordinating member of Kongra Star in Hasakah Canton, also made a speech. Emphasizing the resistance against ISIS, she said, “For five years, our region has witnessed many crimes committed by ISIS against people and women. But today, we are opening the Women’s House thanks to the resistance of women and men. The revolution in North and East Syria is a revolution that echoes across the world. We won thanks to the ideology and the philosophy of leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan).”
‘We are opening the Women’s House to build a free future’
Besma Al-Xideyîrise, member of Kongra Star in Mergeda, said, “Today is a historic day. We are determined to have a democratic society. Now, we are opening the Women’s House to build a free future, implement the Democratic Nation project of leader Öcalan and to understand society. We will keep resisting to have a free life.”
After the speeches, the Women’s House was opened with great enthusiasm.
