Women’s Assembly in Halabja forms committee combating violence against women
The Women’s Assembly in Halabja has announced that they have formed a committee combating violence against women.
Halabja- The Women’s Assembly in Halabja held a panel as part of 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The causes and consequences of violence were discussed at the panel, participated by female members of NGOs and political parties.
Committee combating violence against women
Shara Abdul Karim, head of the Kurdistan Women Union in Sharazoor, was one of the women who participated in the panel. Speaking about the committee, she said, “We have held many activities as part of 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence. We have formed a committee to combat violence against women. The committee will provide psychological and legal support to survivors of violence.”
Lawyer Shad Razgar told NuJINHA that the committee would work to reduce domestic violence. She thinks that parents play an important role in combating violence against women because education starts at home.
