Women of Qamishlo: Turkey is a threat to the Middle East

“Turkey is a threat to not only Rojava and North and East Syria but also the Middle East,” said the women of Qamishlo, drawing attention to the ongoing Turkish threats and attacks.

Qamishlo- Kurdish people think Turkey's aggression is the biggest factor threatening women in the Middle East. We interviewed the women in the streets of Qamishlo, NE Syria, about the Turkish attack that killed civilians, including women and children, in the Perax village of Zakho, a district of Duhok.

“The civilians were innocent”

One of the women we interviewed is Mizgîn Osman. Stating that Turkey’s aggressive, invading and threatening stance affects not only Kurdistan but also other parts of the Middle East, Mizgîn Osman said:

“The Turkish state sees Kurdish people as its enemy and often attacks them. How long does it attack us? When will its attacks end? The civilians, children and women, who were killed in the Kurdistan Region, were innocent. Why did the Turkish state attack and kill them?”

“The Turkish state is a threat to the Middle East”

Gulê Murad, another woman in Qamishlo, told us that there is no explanation and admissibility of the massacre that took place in Zakho. “All people in Rojava condemn the massacre and stage protests against the massacre. I condemn the massacre that took place in the Perax village of Zakho. The attack against civilians is a violation of all human rights. All people in Southern Kurdistan should unite against attacks. Yesterday, they attacked Iraq and they will attack other countries tomorrow. For this reason, we say that the Turkish state is a threat to the Middle East,” she said.

“We will not leave our country”

Mîdya El- Hesen, a resident of the Çêlekê village of Qamishlo, recalled that the attack in Zakho was not the first attack of the Turkish state in the region. “We want to live safe in our region and country. After Turkey had a meeting with Russia and Iran, it attacked Zakho. The Turkish state attacked civilians to intimidate the people of the region. The people of the region resisted ISIS and they will resist all attacks against them. We will not leave our lands and country,” she said.
