Tunisia- The 3rd World Women’s Conference of grassroots women that began on September 3 and will end on September 10, has entered its sixth day.

Speaking to NuJINHA, American feminist activist Susan Smith said that the advancement of women in the Middle East and North Africa is difficult due to oppression imposed by imperialist regimes. She stressed that the interventions of imperialist regimes such as the United States, England, Russia and Turkey in the region make the situation of women more difficult. Drawing attention to the racism and discrimination against the indigenous, Afro-American and colored women in the US, Susan Smith emphasized the need to form a strong movement in order to struggle against discrimination and policies of oppression against women. “Women must be organized against imperialism,” she said.

Amira Dalsh, a member of the preparatory committee for the conference, told NuJINHA that the main aim of the conference is to learn from each other's experiences.

The conference continues with the presentations, artistic and cultural activities as well as discussions on the situation of women around the world.
