Hasakah- On August 25, the General Command of Internal Security Forces in North and East Syria announced the launch of the second phase of the “Humanitarian and Security Operation” in al-Hol camp against ISIS sleeper cells in the camp with the support of the Women’s Defense Units (YPJ), Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Anti-Terror Units (YAT). While the searches inside the tents in the camp continue, the Internal Security Forces members first take families to a safe place before searching inside the tents. On the 13th day of the phase, 25 ISIS members, including nine women, were arrested, seven tents that had been used by ISIS members as training and torture centers, were removed, according to the statement released by the Internal Security Forces. NuJINHA spoke to the women living in the camp about the operation.

“We have more peaceful life”

Xewla Salih is an Iraqi woman living in the camp since 2017. She thinks they can live in peace if there are no ISIS members in the camp. “Since the second phase of the operation was launched, we have had a more peaceful life in the camp. Now, we do not hear any murder cases when we wake up. Before, we heard murder cases every day.”

“We feel safe when we see security members patrolling around the camp”

Edla Ebid is another Iraqi woman living in the camp. “We feel safe when we see security members patrolling around the camp,” she said.

“I received death threat”

Paşê Edla told us that she had received death threats from ISIS members in the camp. “ISIS members carrying guns tried to kill my son. I do not know why they wanted to kill my son. I took my son to a safe place to protect him. We all thank the security forces members who came here to protect us and want to save us from those people. Now, we feel safe here.”
