Women in Manbij stress significance of solidarity in reaction to Turkish assault
The Women's Council of the Future Syria Party staged a demonstration in Manbij to protest ongoing Turkish attacks in the region.
Manbij – During a protest, the women of Manbij, a city in NE Syria, as well as members of the Future Syria Party Women's Council, voiced their opposition to Turkey's occupation policy in the region.
Women from Manbij marched on June 12 to protest Turkey's attacks in the region as part of the ``Unite...Resist...Achieve Freedom" campaign launched by the Future Syria Party on May 31.
The demonstrators held banners condemning Turkey's settlement occupation scheme, as well as Turkey's violations of women's rights in Tal Abyad (Kurdish: Gri-Spi) and Ras Al-Ain (Kurdish: Serê Kaniyê).
At the end of the march, women released a statement saying, "Women experienced atrocities throughout the Ottoman Empire's rule, and their rights were revoked, subjugated, and neglected. Many Syrian women have recently been slaughtered and humiliated by the invading authority.
"Women in NE Syria and Manbij have the ability to liberate themselves, their country, and lead their societies. Women in Syria and the occupied territories must stand up to free themselves from this occupation, and we will not allow any further invasion or occupation in any of our regions.”
"Today we are here to declare our stance rejecting the Turkish state's policy of assaults, threats, and abuse towards women in the region," Buthaina al-Hassan, a member of the Future Syria Party, said during the demonstration. “Women must be solidarity with each other in reaction to any attack on our territory,” she added.
"We're here to show that we're unified, to show that we're ready to fight the occupation, and to underline the need of liberating the occupied territories," said Azab Abboud, the chair of the Future Syria Party Women’s Council in Manbij. “Workshops and seminars will be held as part of the campaign to explore the suffering of women in the crisis. These events will mark the beginning of proposing answers to the Syrian crisis and the suffering of women in the occupied country.”
"In the face of the occupation, we repeat our determination," said Alia al-Taan, a member of the Future Syria Party office in the Abu Qalqal and Tal Houdan areas. “Our determination to free our country will increase regardless of the number of the rights violations. As they intensify their attacks, we will strengthen our struggle.”
The "Unite...Resist...Achieve Freedom" campaign will continue until July 15.
