Women from 13 Arab countries meet in Cairo

The Arab Women’s Organization held the 10th meeting of the Supreme Council in Cairo with the participation of women from 13 Arab countries. At the meeting, the women shared their experiences and underlined the important role of women to overcome crises.

Cairo- The Arab Women’s Organization held the 10th meeting of the Supreme Council in Cairo with the participation of women from 13 Arab countries, ministers, and representatives of the government in Egypt.

“Women take on the heaviest responsibilities”

Dr. Fadia Kiwan, Director General of the Arab Women’s Organization, drew attention to the effects of the ongoing pandemic and said, “Those most affected by the pandemic are women and women are those working effectively in this crisis.” Underlining the important role of women to overcome crises, Fadia Kiwan talked about the struggle of women. “Women take on the heaviest responsibilities in fighting the pandemic, and the political, economic, and social problems,” she said.

At the meeting, Libya's Minister of State for Women Affairs Horeya Al-Tarman made a speech during the meeting. In her speech, she underlined that they, as the Libyan government, make efforts to ensure women's rights and to empower them in all fields. She called on communities to implement new cultural concepts that enhance the positive role of women. She also stressed how women’s participation in the government is important.

Yosra Karim Mohsin, Director General of the Iraqi Women Empowerment Department of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, also made a speech at the meeting. She stated that the Covid-19 pandemic has affected the whole world, especially children. Talking about maternity leave in Iraq, she said that they have worked on this issue to protect pregnant women.
