Women condemn ‘honor killings’ against two women in Manbij

The Zenubiya Women's Community condemned the killings of two women in the occupied Manbij in the name of “honor”, stressing that “honor killings” against women “are the most heinous crimes” produced by the patriarchal mindset.

Raqqa- The members of the Zenubiya Women’s Community gathered in the city of Raqqa on Tuesday, condemning the killings of two women in the occupied Manbij in the name of “honor”.

Two women were kidnapped by Turkish-backed drug traffickers in Manbij. Upon their release, they were killed by their male relatives.

One woman was killed by her brother in Manbij after she was released by drug traffickers. The other was killed by her father in Manbij’s Maran village.

“We strongly condemn the killings of the two women in Manbij in the name of honor,” the Zenubiya Women’s Community said in a statement. “Honor killings against women are the most heinous crimes produced by the patriarchal mindset, as a result of the culture of gender discrimination.”

The community also stressed that these crimes “are not only committed against individuals, but against entire generations. Honor killing is a brutal violation of human rights. These crimes were committed against two women in Manbij due to the absence of deterrent laws and legislation against the perpetrators. The incidents of kidnapping, rape and killing by the Turkish-backed groups are on rise. Furthermore, the silence of women against these crimes encourages these groups to commit more crimes against women.”

Call to rise up against crimes

The community also called on everyone to “rise up against such crimes committed against women. We demand the amendment of laws that encourage perpetrators to commit these crimes. They must not go unpunished. We must also demand the elimination of all forms of violence and discrimination against women.”
