“We feel the pain that Yazidi women feel”

Arab women of Shengal came together to mark the anniversary of the Yazidi genocide committed by ISIS on August 3, 2014. “We feel the pain that Yazidi women feel,” they said.

Shengal (Sinjar)- Arap women of Shengal came together under the leadership of the Yazidi Free Women's Movement (TAJÊ) to mark the anniversary of the genocide committed against Yazidis by ISIS on August 3, 2014.

The women watched a film about the genocide against the Yazidi community. After the film, the Shengal Arab Women's Council issued a statement.

“Humanity died on the day of the genocide”

Fatima Mustafa read the statement on behalf of the Shengal Arab Women’s Council. “We, as the Shengal Arab Women’s Council, commemorate all martyrs of Shengal. We condemn the genocide committed against the Yazidi community by ISIS. We always stand by the Yazidi women. We know that women's pain is the same because we feel the pain that Yazidi women feel. Humanity died on the day of the genocide.”

“A shameful day”

Highlighting that the struggle for existence of the Yazidi community is also their struggle, Fatima Mustafa said, “The 3th of August 2014 is a shameful day for humanity. The states claiming that they defend human rights kept silent, played ostrich. All human rights organizations and states must support the Yazidi community to heal their wounds. A struggle should be waged to find those who disappeared during the genocide. As Arab women, we will continue to demand justice for Yazidi women and their community.”
