UN Warns of Serious Deterioration in Humanitarian Conditions in Gaza and the West Bank
Gaza’s War death toll reaches 73,058 wounded, as UN warns of worsening displacement, Vioilence, and settlement expansion in West Bank
News Center — The Gaza Strip is witnessing deteriorating humanitarian conditions that worsen day by day, amid widespread destruction and severe restrictions hindering the delivery of aid to the population, as international warnings escalate over the ongoing crisis and its repercussions on civilians.
Medical sources in the Gaza Strip announced yesterday, Monday, June 29, that the death toll from the ongoing Israeli war on the Strip has risen to 73,058 killed and 173,488 wounded.
The Palestinian news agency WAFA quoted the sources as saying that hospitals in the Strip received dozens of dead and wounded over the past hours, noting that the total number of casualties since the ceasefire on October 10 last year has exceeded one thousand killed, while injuries have risen to 3,380, and 786 bodies have been recovered.
The medical sources explained that a number of victims remain under the rubble and on the roads, as ambulance and rescue crews remain unable to reach them at this time.
Massive Suffering
The UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator for Palestine stressed the need to address concerns and meet the needs and legitimate aspirations of Gaza's residents through the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2803.
The UN official warned that the situation in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, continues to deteriorate, noting the continuation of airstrikes and Israeli military operations across Gaza, and the continued expansion of Israeli forces' field control, increasing the areas requiring coordination for humanitarian operations.
He affirmed that the expanding scope of Israeli expansion in areas under its control has reduced the space available to civilians, as Palestinians in Gaza are concentrated in continuously shrinking areas and live in conditions characterized by insecurity and escalating violence.
The UN official condemned the continued killing and injury of civilians in Gaza, including women and children, calling on all parties to facilitate the full, rapid, and unimpeded passage of humanitarian aid.
He noted that the accelerating Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank deepens the illegal occupation and undermines the possibility of an independent and geographically contiguous Palestinian state, expressing grave concern over land registration in Area C, and warning that this measure will facilitate further settlement expansion.
He also pointed out that movement restrictions, home demolitions, escalating violence, and prolonged security operations have led to the largest wave of Palestinian displacement in the West Bank since 1967.
