Turkish court rejects indictment prepared against journalists
A court has rejected the indictment prepared against 49 people, including journalists Dicle Müftüoğlu and Sedat Yılmaz.
Ankara- The Ankara 28th High Criminal Court has rejected the indictment prepared against 49 people, including Dicle Müftüoğlu, Co-chair of the Dicle Fırat Journalists’ Association (DFG) and editor of the Mesopotamia Agency (MA), and Sedat Yılmaz, editor of the Mesopotamia Agency.
The court has sent the indictment back to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. No information has been received about why the court has sent the indictment back.
On April 29, Turkish police raided houses in 15 cities as part of an investigation launched by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. 19 people, including journalists Dicle Müftüoğlu and Sedat Yılmaz were detained. For 24 hours, they were not allowed to see their lawyers. After four days in custody, five of them were sent to prison on charges of “membership in a terrorist organization”. The names of five people held in pretrial detention are: Dicle Müftüoğlu, Sedat Yılmaz, Erol Balcı, Abdurrahim Tanyeli and Ramazan Debe.
