Turkish court looks for witnesses against journalist Nurcan Yalçın
At the hearing of the retrial against journalist Nurcan Yalçın, the judge ruled to ask the police whether there are other witnesses to testify against the journalist.
News Center- Journalist Nurcan Yalçın was sentenced to three years, seven months and 22 days in prison on charges of “Membership in an illegal organization” and “propagandizing for an illegal organization” on November 22, 2021. The Turkish Court of Appeal reversed the judgment on the ground that a new trial and investigation had been launched against the journalist by the Diyarbakır 4th High Criminal Court and the court had sentenced the journalist to the prison sentence without examining the connection between the trial and new trial and investigation.
Journalist Nurcan Yalçın and her lawyer Resul Temur were present at the hearing of the retrial held at the Diyarbakır 4th High Criminal Court on Monday. At the hearing, Nurcan Yalçın repeated her defense and her lawyer requested to correct all deficiencies. The prosecution also requested the correction of all deficiencies. The judge ruled to ask the Diyarbakır Police Headquarters whether there are any other witnesses or investigations against Nurcan Yalçın. The next hearing will be held on November 26, 2024.
