Turkey: Men kill 25 women in July
In Turkey, 25 women were killed by men and nine more died under suspicious circumstances in July, according to the report released by the We Will Stop Femicide Platform (KCDP).
News Center- We Will Stop Femicide Platform (Kadın Cinayetlerini Durduracağız Platformu-KCDP) has been releasing reports on femicide by compiling the news from local and national newspapers, news websites and news agencies since 2010. The platform has released its July 2023 report saying, “The ministries distort the facts by saying that our reports on femicide are prepared incorrectly, instead of announcing how many women are killed, why, how and by whom women are killed.”
‘We will keep struggling’
“The state’s duty is to announce the reality of femicide and suspicious deaths of women and to implement concrete solutions to stop femicide,” the report said that the platform would keep struggling to push all relevant ministries so that they would activate all mechanisms to end femicide.
25 women were killed in July
25 women were killed by men and nine more died under suspicious circumstances in July, according to the report. Six of 25 women were killed by men on the excuse that they had asked for a divorce, refused marriage or dating proposals and made decisions about their lives. A woman was killed by the perpetrator after she understood he cheated on her.
‘Femicide will continue without deterrent legislations’
The excuses of men for killing 18 women were not determined, the report said. “The reason why the excuse of men for killing 18 women was not determined is that the cases of violence against women and femicide are invisible. Gender-based violence and femicide will continue without deterrent legislation.”
Most women were killed at their home
12 of 25 women were killed at their home, four on the streets, two at hotels, two in cars, one in an open space, one in a desert place, one at her workplace and one near a waterfront.
The report also said, “Men killed 16 women with firearms, five with sharp objects. Men beat a woman to death and killed three women by drowning.”
