Turkey: At least 75 people detained in house raids carried out in 11 cities

Today, at least 75 people have been detained in the dawn raids conducted in 11 cities. Police shot one person in the foot and broke the windows and doors of the houses.

News Center- Since the attack that took place in front of the General Directorate of Security of Turkey’s Ministry of the Interior on September 1, 2023, detention operations have been launched in many cities.

Today, police carried out dawn raids in Izmir, Eskişehir, Kilis, Kocaeli, Êlih (Batman), Colemêrg (Hakkari), Mêrdîn (Mardin), Amed (Diyarbakır), Agirî (Ağrı), Bedlîs (Bitlis) and Şirnex (Şırnak). At least 75 people have been reportedly detained.

According to the received reports, Mesopotamia Agency (MA) reporter Ahmet Kanbal and many politicians are among the detained people.

 Number of detained people may increase in Izmir

Police carried out dawn raids in Izmir. In the raids, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Izmir Provincial Co-chair Berna Çelik, HDP Buca District Co-chair Nihat Türk, and HDP Konak District Co-chair Azize Çelebi were detained. The number of the detained people may increase in the city.

Police violence in Colemêrg

Police also carried out dawn raids in  Colemêrg’s Gever (Yüksekova) district. According to the local sources, police entered the houses by breaking the doors and windows and those who were in the houses were subjected to violence and ill-treatment by police officers. As police were detaining a citizen named Agit Koca, his sister was shot in the foot by police. The names of some detained people in the district are: Bahtiyar Bor, Vedat Özeken, Savaş Akdoğan, Cudi ve Haşim Şedal Kardeşler, Barış Özçük and Yasin Akdağ.
