Iran's Supreme Court upholds death sentence for Pakhshan Azizi
The Iranian Supreme Court upheld the death sentence handed down to Pakhshan Azizi, a Kurdish political prisoner and journalist imprisoned in Evin Prison, her lawyer, Amir Reisiyan, said on Wednesday.
News Center- The Iranian Supreme Court upheld the death sentence handed down to Pakhshan Azizi, a Kurdish political prisoner and journalist imprisoned in Evin Prison, her lawyer, Amir Reisiyan, said in a social media post on Wednesday.
Her lawyer also said that the documents submitted to the court for Pakhshan Azizi’s defence had been rejected.
Pakhshan Azizi, a women’s rights activist and journalist, was born in Iran’s Mahabad city. She was arrested in Tehran on August 4, 2023. After about four months in solitary confinement at the Intelligence Ministry's detention center (Ward 209 of Evin Prison), she was transferred to the women’s ward of Evin Prison. On July 23, 2024, she was sentenced to death by Branch 26 of Tehran's Revolutionary Court on charges of “armed insurrection”
