Algeria- Violence against women has increased in all countries. A group of feminists in Algeria launched an app with the motto, “You are not alone” to protect women against all kinds of violence against them. The app is available in English, French and now Arabic to build solidarity among women when they face violence, harassment, rape attempts in the country.

We spoke to Safaa Bazah, one of these feminists, about “The Sorority app”. “This app was launched first in France by a group of women. We launched this app in Algeria,” Safaa Bazah told us.

Stating that the cases of violence against women, femicides and harassment have been increasing in Algeria, Safaa Bazah said, “We think this app will be useful for women having the opportunity to use the internet to report the cases to the other women.”

“Women will not feel alone anymore”

“Unfortunately, violence becomes a part of women's daily lives. Women face all kinds of violence in the streets, in public transport, at the office, at home, during a trip and everywhere. With The Sorority app, the Algerian women will not feel alone and helpless when they face violence,” Safaa Bazah said.

The app has an Alert Button to ask for help

When a woman presses the Alert Button on the app, the closest users are notified that a woman needs help. “You should just press the Alert Button when you face violence or attack. The closest users will be notified that you need help,” Safaa Bazah explained how women can use the app.

The app is available in English, French and now Arabic in Algeria.
