Amed - A delegation, consisting of politicians, MPs and academics, of the United Kurdish Women's Platform had meetings with political parties, women’s organizations and members of the Kurdistan Region Parliament in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, cities of the Kurdistan Region, last week. The aim of the delegation was to discuss the intensified attacks on Kurds and the increase in gender-based violence and raise a joint voice against the attacks.

Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Deputy Co-chair Gülşen Sincar was a member of the delegation. NuJINHA spoke to her about their meetings in the Kurdistan Region.

‘We will form the Platform for Kurdish Women’s Unity’

Noting that the United Kurdish Women’s Platform has made great efforts to create national unity since it was formed in Amed in 2017, Gülşen Sincar said that the main aim of the platform is to form a joint platform with women living in four parts of Kurdistan. “We had meetings with political parties and women’s organizations in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah for a week to form this platform,” she told us.

‘Women’s unity is essential against attacks’

Underlining that women are stronger together, Gülşen Sincar gave the following explanations about the main aims of their visits:

“The main aim is to unite and strengthen women's leading role in the 21st century against all kinds of attacks on Kurdistan territory. We think that our visits were the first steps to create national unity. Kurdish people and women have achieved their gains by uniting and struggling for years. We underlined how we can be stronger if we unite.”

‘Our aim is to bring the process to a certain point’

Gülşen Sincar told us they were well welcomed in the Kurdistan Region and that they discussed the importance of the unity of Kurdish women in the meetings. “We will take a concrete step in a short time according to the discussions made in the meetings. We decided to visit organizations (in the Kurdistan Region) over the insistence and demands of the organizations. During the meetings, we discussed how we could get stronger in this process. Our aim is to bring the process to a certain point as much as possible by continuing to discuss the way how we can create our unity without waiting for our next meetings.”

‘We agree on preserving and defending our values’

Gülşen Sincar stated that they would determine a road map by aiming to revive the national unity efforts made in the previous periods. “During the meetings, we, as Kurdish women, agreed on leading the process of national unity to preserve and defend our values despite the political contradictions,” she said.

‘We will also make contact with women in Rojava and Rojhilat’

Noting that they will also make contact with women in Rojava and Rojhilat, Gülşen Sincar said, “We had an opportunity to meet the political parties and women’s organizations in Southern Kurdistan. We will also make contact with women in Rojava and Rojhilat because we aim to create a joint platform with women’s organizations and movements in four parts of Kurdistan.”

‘The national unity is the best response to the attacks’

Emphasizing that national unity is the best response to the intensifying attacks on Kurdish women and people, Gülşen Sincar said, “Our main aim is to share experiences of the women’s movements and organizations in four parts of Kurdistan to create unity in 2023.”
