Sulaymaniyah (Slemani)- After making a deal with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP or PDK), the Turkish state launched a new ground and air cross-border operation in the Kurdistan Region on April 17. While the attacks on the Kurdistan Region are ongoing, they pose a threat to the lives of the people. The citizens in the Kurdistan Region and NE Syria have been holding protests against the attacks.
“Their aim is to destroy the Kurdish people”
We interviewed the women of Sulaymaniyah about the Turkish attacks. Saniye Resul is one of the women we interviewed. Condemning the Turkish attacks, she said, “The Turkish state wants to occupy our region because our region is a rich region. The Turkish state doesn’t want Kurdistan to be independent. The Kurdish government and authorities see the occupiers as friends and they pave the way for the occupation of Kurdistan. I call on our people to not accept these attacks.”
“Women are more affected by attacks”
Pexşan Emer, another woman we interviewed, recalled that the occupiers want to take the riches of Kurdistan and said that women are more affected by Turkish attacks. “If the Iraqi government and Kurdistan regional government hadn’t allowed the occupiers to enter the Kurdistan Region, we would not face these attacks now. Maybe, they sold us and our region and that’s why they don’t stop the attacks now. The aim of the occupation is to destroy the Kurds. Iraq and the regional administration must unite and stand against these attacks to prevent more mothers from suffering.”
“PDK paves the way for the occupiers”
Sueybe Eli thinks that the main reason why the Turkish state has attacked their region is the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP or PDK). Stating that the KDP has carried out policies that serve the occupiers throughout its history, Sueyba Eli said, “These attacks started in the month of Ramadan and when we have faced the bad political and economic situation. People living in villages and districts are under threat due to these attacks. The people are tired of these attacks, but they remain silent. The people, particularly young people, should break their silence and take a stance to end these attacks.”
