News Center- Syria’s interim government led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) issued a decree on Monday saying that women are required to wear burkinis or other swimwear that covers the body at public beaches and swimming pools.
According to reports, the decree issued by Syria's Tourism Ministry aims to protect “public decency” and improve “safety and security protocols for public beaches and pools”.
The decree offered an exception for hotels classed as four-star or above, and for private beaches, pools and clubs.
Although the interim government has promised to protect freedoms and guarantee women's rights in the country, it has issued many decrees, restricting women in all facets of life.
