Southern Kurdistan Women's Front calls to fight against femicide
“We call on all women to fight against femicide by taking to the streets,” said the statement released by the Southern Kurdistan Women’s Front, condemning the killing of two women by their brothers in Sulaymaniyah.
Sulaymaniyah- The southern Kurdistan Women’s Front has released a statement regarding the killing of two women by their brothers in Sulaymaniyah.
Pointing to the increase in femicide and gender-based violence, the statement said, “Unfortunately, violence against women and femicide has become a common phenomenon in Kurdish society because of male-dominated culture. Men think they are superior to women and they can decide for women.”
Increase in violence against women
As the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is approaching, there is an increase in femicide and violence against women, the statement said, “One of the reasons for this increase is silence and the lack of a joint struggle. We call on all women to fight femicide by taking to the streets.”
