Sit-in protest of Şenyaşar family enters its 700th day
The Şenyaşar family has been demanding justice in front of the Urfa Courthouse for 700 days.
Riha - The sit-in protest held in front of the Urfa Courthouse by Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were murdered in the attack carried out by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in the Suruç (Kurdish: Pirsûs) district of Urfa province on June 14, 2018, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar has entered its 700th day.
The family did not hold their protest for 15 days due to the earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on February 6, 2023. After 15 days, the family has held their sit-in protest in front of the courthouse today. The family wrote the names of 10 cities affected by the earthquakes on their banner reading, “Justice for the Şenyaşar family.”
‘They walk freely’
Emine Şenyaşar called for help for those affected by the earthquake. “I demand the release of my son (Fadıl Şenyaşar). This government persecutes us. Those who killed my children can walk freely by calling themselves ‘member of parliament’. Why do they go unpunished?”
“We paused our sit-in protest due to the earthquake on February 6. As of February 20, our sit-in protest continues in front of the Urfa Courthouse on its 700th day. (Today, we dedicate our sit-in protest to the earthquake victims),” the Şenyaşar family posted today on their social media account.
