Arzu Çerkezoğlu, President of the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (DISK), visited the Şenyaşar family on the 609th day of their sit-in protest demanding justice.

Riha - The sit-in protest held in front of the Urfa Courthouse by Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were murdered in the attack carried out by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in the Suruç district of Urfa province on June 14, 2018, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar has entered its 609th day.

Today, Arzu Çerkezoğlu, President of the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (DISK) and DISK board members visited the Şenyaşar family to support their struggle.

“All people in Turkey are witnesses of the resistance”

Arzu Çerkezoğlu made a speech in front of the Urfa Courthouse and said, “This struggle shows very well the process that Turkey has been going through. All people in Turkey are witnesses of the resistance and the massacre carried out against the members of the Şenyaşar family. Despite the injustice and unlawfulness faced by the Şenyaşar family, the demand and resistance of Emine Şenyaşar and the Şenyaşar family for justice are the demand and resistance of all people in the country. As working class and as DISK, we always say that working people have no rights without democracy and justice. We say that democracy and justice are the bread of working people. We will continue to demand justice everywhere in the country and to be in solidarity with all struggles for justice. We say once again that we stand by the Şenyaşar family for their struggle for justice and that we will follow their cause.”

After her speech, Emine Şenyaşar recalled what happened in 2018 and demanded the release of her son Fadıl Şenyaşar.

“The state of law will prevail”

“We have been in front of the Urfa Courthouse for 609 days. Everyone, who says they are human beings, supports our struggle for justice. On the day when justice is delivered, the state of law will prevail, not us,” the Şenyaşar family posted today on their social media account.
