Sit-in protest of Şenyaşar family enters its 592nd day
Members of the Amed Labor and Democracy Platform visited the Şenyaşar family on the 592nd day of their sit-in protest for justice.
Riha - The sit-in protest held in front of the Urfa Courthouse by Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were murdered in the attack carried out by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in the Suruç district of Urfa province on June 14, 2018, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar has entered its 592nd day.
In the morning, Emine Şenyaşar and Ferit Şenyaşar came in front of the courthouse and hung a banner reading, “Justice for the Şenyaşar family, justice for everyone,” on the concrete barriers to demand justice again. Today, a delegation consisting of the members of the Amed Labor and Democracy Platform visited the family to support their struggle for justice. The members of the Lawyers Association for Freedom (ÖHD) Urfa branch accompanied the delegation.
Yıldız Ok Orak, Spokesperson of the platform, made a speech in front of the courthouse. “The area where the family held the sit-in protest was blocked by barriers. Now, the area is used as a parking area. The AKP government has been defeated against the resistance of the family. The determination and upright stance of the family set an example for the whole world. The mentality of the AKP will disappear sooner or later, but the resistance of the Şenyaşar family will go down in history. We support the struggle of the family,” she said in her speech.
Police tried to prevent
After the speech, police tried to intervene in the protest, citing the Urfa Governor's decision to ban all protests and activities for three days. Police said if the members of the delegation would issue a press statement, they would take them into custody. But the police had to withdraw after the family members and the members of the delegation reacted to them.
