Sit-in protest for justice enters its 721st day

“Will there be justice among the promises of those who want to come to power?” The Şenyaşar family asked on the 721st day of their sit-in protest.

Riha - The sit-in protest held in front of the Urfa Courthouse by Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were murdered in the attack carried out by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in the Suruç (Kurdish: Pirsûs) district of Urfa province on June 14, 2018, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar has entered its 721st day.

In the morning, the Şenyaşar family came in front of the courthouse to hold their sit-in protest by unfurling a banner reading, “Justice for the Şenyaşar family”. Recalling that they spent the month of Ramadan in front of the courthouse last year, the family said that they would spend the month of Ramadan in front of the courthouse this year if justice is not delivered.

Ferit Şenyaşar made a speech in front of the courthouse. Pointing to the upcoming elections, he said, “Will there be justice among the promises of those who want to come to power again? Will they say, ‘We will treat every citizen equally and justly’? If they have such promises, they should first look at the Urfa Courthouse and then make such promises.”

‘Our pain is fresh just like the first day’

“Demanding justice on behalf of humanity in a country where there is no justice is one of the most difficult and most important tasks in the world. Our pain is fresh just like the first day. Our sit-in protest for justice in front of the courthouse is on its 721st day… The MP, who committed the massacre at the hospital, is in the parliament,” the Şenyaşar family posted today on their social media account.
