Sit-in protest for justice enters its 707th day
“People across the country are shouting, ‘Where is the state?’” said the Şenyaşar family on the 707th day of their sit-in protest for justice.
Riha - The sit-in protest held in front of the Urfa Courthouse by Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were murdered in the attack carried out by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in the Suruç (Kurdish: Pirsûs) district of Urfa province on June 14, 2018, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar continues on its 707th day.
In the morning, Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar came in front of the courthouse. They started to hold their sit-in protest by unfurling a banner reading, “Justice”.
Making a speech in front of the courthouse, Ferit Şenyaşar said, “We have been demanding justice for two years. We come here every day asking, ‘Where is justice, where is the state?’ All police officers and the prosecutors who pass by us every day hear our cry for justice. A major earthquake struck the country. Since no earthquake-resistant structures were built, many buildings collapsed. Now, people across the country are shouting, ‘Where is the state’. Millions of people follow our cause. Although the truth has been revealed, the judiciary does not do its duty. We will stay in front of the courthouse until justice is delivered, until my jailed brother (Fadıl ŞEnyaşar) is released (from prison).”
