Report reveals 29 women and two children killed in Turkey during one month

News Center — Violence against women in Turkey remains an escalating social crisis, with killings and violations continuing at an alarming rate despite laws and announced measures to reduce them, reflecting the depth of the problem and growing concerns over the lack of effective protection for women.

According to violence statistics for last March released by JINNEWS agency, at least 29 women and two children were killed, and 20 women and two other children died under unclear circumstances.

The report uncovered by the agency explained that the female victims of murder were distributed across multiple cases: one woman was killed by her student, two by their partners, one by her ex-boyfriend, seven women were killed by their partners during divorce proceedings, and ten by their husbands.

Other recorded cases included a woman killed by her brother, another by her son, one by a stranger, another by a man of unknown relation, in addition to a woman killed by her uncle, two by their brothers-in-law, and one by her ex-husband.

Geographical distribution of victims

Four women were killed in Istanbul, two in Aydın, three in Bursa, one in Adana, two in Izmir, two in Muğla, three in Mersin, and one killing each was recorded in Trabzon, Kayseri, Aksaray, Nevşehir, Samsun, Hatay, Niğde, Eskişehir, in addition to two cases in Amed (Diyarbakır) and two cases in Manisa, according to the report.
