News Center - The Women's Freedom of Expression (Kurdish: Ragihandina Azad a Jinê -RAJIN), a women journalists’ organization, has issued a press statement to mark the Kurdish Women Journalists’ Day. In the statement, the organization celebrated the day and commemorated the pioneers of the free press tradition such as Gurbetelli Ersöz and Nagihan Akarsel, and revolutionary women.
“Gurbeteli Ersöz and Nagihan Akarsel, the pioneers of the free women's struggle and women's revolution, started the march for freedom, following the truth with the philosophy of 'Jin, Jîyan, Azadî',” the statement said, “We commemorate all martyrs of the free press in the person of Gurbeteli Ersöz and Nagihan Akarsel, who were revolutionaries, journalists and pioneers of the women's struggle for freedom. We bow respectfully to their search for the truth and reiterate our promise to maintain their struggle.”
In the statement, the RAJIN underlined that they are dedicated to reporting the truth of the women's revolution and that they continue to be the voice and pen of the thoughts, hopes, ideology and struggles of women who resist and love freedom. The RAJIN also condemned the killing of Nagihan Akarsel in the statement.
“Revolutionary, journalist and member of Jineology Academy Nagihan Akarser made great efforts for the development of the free press in Northern Kurdistan for many years by following the legacy of Gurbetelli (Gurbetelli Ersöz, Turkey’s first female editor-in-chief) and resisting women. She always resisted all kinds of oppression and brutal attacks by the invading Turkish state. She left behind a memory and a precious research both for the free press and for women's science. She made efforts to spread the ideology of the science of women all over the world. Particularly in Southern Kurdistan and Rojava, she worked hard to practice Jineology, the science of women, with women and she turned everywhere into a Jineology academy.”
“Now is our turn to maintain the struggle”
The statement drew attention to the fact that Turkey continues its hostility towards the Kurdish people, the Kurdish Freedom Movement and particularly the women led the women’s revolution for freedom. “With the philosophy of 'Jin, Jîyan, Azadi', we believe that the truth will never remain in the dark. Now is our turn to maintain the struggle of Gurbetelli, Nagihan and thousands of truth seekers with great determination.”
