Protest with “Ice cream” against Erdoğan by women crossing their legs

Women protested Turkey’s withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention in Izmir yesterday. They protested President Tayyip Erdoğan by eating ice cream while crossing their legs.

Izmir- Women continue to protest Turkey’s withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention by a Presidential decree. Izmir Campaign group called “We don’t give up on the Istanbul Convention” have held a protest for seven weeks. Last night, the campaign group members gathered in front of Türkan Saylan Culture Center, located in Izmir’s Alsancak. They unfurled a banner reading, “Istanbul Convention is ours, and we don’t give up on it.” They also shouted slogans such as, “We don’t leave streets at night” and “We don’t give up lives and dreams.”

Women drew attention to the increase in violence against women and femicides and they emphasized that they would take to the streets to protect their rights. The women read the names of men, who killed women this week, and shouted, “Killers”. On June 6, the bodyguards of President Erdoğan warned several women to not eating ice cream by crossing their legs in the Beylerbeyi neighborhood of Istanbul’s Üsküdar district. The women criticized the incident and protested Erdoğan by eating ice cream while crossing their legs.
