Peace Mothers detained in Istanbul

Four members of the Peace Mothers’ Initiative have been detained in Istanbul while celebrating the birthday of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Istanbul- The members of the Peace Mothers’ Initiative and the mothers demanding the release of sick prisoners gathered in the Kanarya neighborhood of Istanbul’s Küçükçekmece district under the leadership of the Anatolian Association for Aid and Solidarity with Families who lost their Relatives (ANYAKAY-DER) to celebrate the 74th birthday of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The mothers held a march by chanting the slogan, “Bijî Serok Apo (English: Long live leader Apo)”. After throwing roses in the sea, police attacked them. Four members of the initiative were detained by police.

Police also tried to prevent Mesopotamia Agency (MA) reporter Zana Kaya and JINNEWS reporters Rozerin Gültekin and Elfazi Toral from covering the police attack. Journalists were subjected to verbal violence by police.
