Hasakah- The Turkish war planes and drones keep targeting civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, health centers, power and water stations, in North and East Syria. The only health center in the Zirgan town of Hasakah Canton, northern Syria, is out of service due to the ongoing Turkish attacks. Sick people suffer from the shortages of medicine in the town.

“The Turkish state has been attacking Zirgan for five years,” said Bêrîvan Mihemed, a pharmacist in the town. “The daily Turkish attacks on the town ant its villages directly affect civilians. Our health center was damaged in the attacks. Due to the ongoing attacks, we suffer from the shortages of medicine. We cannot travel to other towns and cities to bring medicine due to the attacks.”

‘The injured people cannot receive treatment’

Due to shortage of medical supplies, injured people and sick people cannot receive treatment in the town. “We do not have diabetes, heart and blood pressure medications. We do not even have medical cotton or serum. The sick and injured people are transferred to the hospitals in Hasakah or Dirbêsiyê.”

The Turkish war planes and drones also target ambulances and health workers. “Targeting ambulances and health workers is a war crime.  The Turkish state must be held accountable for targeting ambulances and health workers.”

The roads to Til Temir and Dîrbêsiyê are often closed due to the ongoing Turkish attacks. “We have no medicines or doctors. The Turkish state must not target civilians anymore. I call on international human rights organizations and health organizations to come here and see the situation.”
