NE Syrian women to hold activities on November 25

North and East Syrian women will hold many activities and events to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women to raise awareness regarding gender-based violence.

Qamishlo- While the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is approaching, the North and East Syrian women inspiring the international women's struggle have formed a platform to organize events and activities by including women from all segments.

Şawîşa Women’s Association member Necla Temo spoke to NuJINHA about the events, protests and activities that they will organize to mark the day. The NE Syrian women will kick off their activities on November 12 at the Martyrs Stadium.

Campaign by 33 women’s organizations

Stating that the platform consists of 33 women’s organizations, Necla Temo said, “The Şawîşka Women’s Association is one of these 33 women’s organizations. As women’s movements and organizations in North and East Syria, we held a meeting and decided to organize a series of activities to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. We will announce our campaign at the Martyrs’ Stadium on November 12.

Awareness-raising activities

Speaking about their planned activities, she said, “Many different events and activities will be held this year to mark the day. For instance, we will hold a seminar to give information about the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. In addition, we will hang photographs of female martyrs on the streets and buses. Marches will be held in all cantons with the participation of women and men. Seminars will be held for men and male fighters. The Hîlala Zêrîn Cultural Movement will organize awareness-raising artistic activities. Virtual meetings will be held on Zoom with the participation of women all around the world.”

“We will strengthen our struggle for freedom”

Noting that they will strengthen their struggle for freedom in solidarity, Necla Temo added, “Women have been subjected to violence for thousands of years. As women of North and East Syria, we gain our rights by leading the Revolution in Rojava. Now, we see how women participate in all departments of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria and how they conduct activities at decision-making positions. I call on our people to support women not only on November 25 but all the time. The women’s movements and organizations in North and East Syria struggle for women’s freedom.”
