Nagihan Akarsel commemorated in house where she was born
Nagihan Akarsel, who was killed in Sulaymaniyah on October 4, was commemorated in the house where she was born by her friends and family members.
News Center - Journalist, writer and academic Nagihan Akarsel, member of Jineology Academy and editor of Jineology magazine was killed as a result of an armed attack in Sulaymaniyah on October 4. Her body was taken to Erbil by the women of Sulaymaniyah chanting the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” slogan.
Her body is expected to be transfer to Ankara tomorrow
The body of Nagihan Akarsel is expected to be brought to Ankara tomorrow. After being brought to Ankara, her body will be first taken to Ankara Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK) and then to Gölyazı neighborhood of Konya’s Cihanbeyli district, where she was born. A funeral is expected to be held in the neighborhood with the participation of thousands of people.
“Corner of Nagihan” in the house where she was born
Before the funeral, Nagihan Akarsel’s friends and family members organized a “Corner of Nagihan” in the house where she was born in order to commemorate her. The corner has been decorated with a phonograph of Nagihan Akarsel, carnations and candles.
Statement by the TJA
The Free Women’s Movement (TJA) issued a statement about the funeral of Nagihan Akarsel. “Dear women and our precious people, the body of our friend Nagihan will not arrive today due to official procedures. The body of our friend will be brought to Ankara Esenboğa Airport on Tuesday (tomorrow) at 15.20-15.30 and then will be taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute. We call on all our precious people, particularly precious women, to stand by Nagihan,” the statement said.
Confession from Turkey about Nagihan Akarsel
Speaking at an opening ceremony in Erbil, Turkey's Ambassador to Iraq, Ali Rıza Güney made a statement admitting that Nagihan Akarsel was killed by Turkish agents. Answering the questions of journalists, he said, “We attach more importance to Iraq's sovereignty than some elements in the country itself. Iraq has always been our neighbor, friend and sibling. Security, stability and prosperity are our priorities in Iraq. Our goal is to maintain our bilateral relations as two sovereign states free from terrorist organizations. Hence, our sensitivity and expectation in the fight against terrorism. PKK-oriented and PKK-related targets are at the center of our attention.”
