Morocco- The number of women and girls, who have been subjected to online violence in Morocco, has been recently increasing. Moroccan women’s organizations have launched campaigns to raise awareness about violence against women and girls to eliminate online violence. The Tahadi Association for Equality and Citizenship (Association Tahadi pour l'Égalité et la Citoyenneté -ATEC) and the Federal League for Women's Rights have launched a campaign called, “Combating Online Violence” to raise awareness about online violence.

Their aim is to raise awareness

Bouchra Abdou, the president of the ATEC, told us that the association organized several meetings for both female and male students as part of the 16-day activism against gender-based violence to raise awareness about the danger of online violence faced by women and girls and its effects on both women and their families. “Our association also held seminars in Rabat in cooperation with other women’s organizations. Our aim is to raise awareness about all forms of gender-based violence, particularly online violence,” she said.

The Tahadi Association for Equality and Citizenship was founded in 2003 to provide legal and psychological support to women victims of violence. “Our association has been combating online violence since 2016. We also launched “Stop Online Violence” application to provide legal, psychological and counseling support to women victims of online violence. Online violence has psychological, economic and social effects on women. Online violence causes a lifetime trauma,” Bouchra Abdou said.

‘We have launched several awareness-raising campaigns’

Khadija Takroen, member of the Federal League for Women's Rights (Fédération des Ligues des Droits des Femmes- FLDF) in Casablanca, said, “We have launched a series of awareness-raising campaigns in cooperation with other women’s organizations in Morocco with the motto, “Combating Online Violence” as part of the 16-day activism against gender-based violence. Online violence is a violation of human rights."
