‘Martyrs of Tishreen Dam’ education period started in Til Temir

“It is possible to build a democratic society through education,” said women participating in the “Martyrs of Tishreen Dam” education period started by the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in Til Temir.

Til Temir- The Democratic Union Party (Kurdish: Partiya Yekîtiya Demokrat, PYD) has started an one-month education period in Til Temir, a town in Jazira Canton of North and East Syria, to support women's organizations and members of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).

The program of the education period named “Martyrs of Tishreen Dam” includes many topics such as the importance of education, reading and discussing the volumes of the ‘Manifesto for a Democratic Civilization’ book and other books written by Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan, the Kurdish question, the history of women, Syria and North and East Syria and democratic nation.

‘Education is the foundation of knowledge’

“Our educational activities were interrupted due to the attacks of the occupying Turkish state and security problems,” said Madlên El-Ibêd, deputy Co-chair of Til Temir.

“Education is the foundation of knowledge, essential just as clean water and bread. People need renewal and development even if they are educated. Learning accurate information benefits society. Therefore, this education period is an opportunity for everyone.”

‘The aim is to build a democratic and free society’

Madlên El-Ibêd also talked about the program and aim of the education period as follows:

“The program of the education period includes the reading of books such as the Manifesto for a Democratic Civilization, the Kurdish Question in the Middle East and the Democratic Nation. Understanding the Kurdish question is very important. The aim of the education period is to build a democratic, free and equal society. In North and East Syria, women have been struggling and fighting for 14 years. Now, they are aware of their roles and responsibilities. Women should fight for their rights not only in the Middle East but also all over the world. Women must fight against social traditions that hinder their freedom. Conscious and well-equipped women can lead their society. Women should educate themselves against all the attacks on them.”

“I have participated in such an ideological education period for the first time,” said Întîsar Ebdilezîz, member of the City Council Women's Committee. “One of the most important topics of the period is to understand gender equality. We also learn how to strengthen our friendship. Education greatly affects both our personality and our society.”

‘We will get to know Abdullah Öcalan better’

Întîsar Ebdilezîz emphasized the importance of reading the books of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan and said:

“Leader Apo always emphasizes the importance of education. Therefore, we aim to get to know both ourselves and leader Abdullah Öcalan better through education.”
