Landmine explosion in Syria’s Daraa kills four-year-old

A four-year-old boy was killed when a landmine left from the war exploded in the town of Al-Karak in Syria’s southern Daraa countryside.

News Center - War remnants in Syria remain one of the gravest threats to children, as many live in areas contaminated with landmines and unexploded ordnance, endangering their lives while playing or moving about.

In the latest tragic incident highlighting this danger, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the blast occurred on Wednesday, September 10, in Al-Karak, claiming the child’s life.

The Observatory noted that since December last year, it has documented 611 deaths caused by explosions of war remnants, including 166 children and 42 women. Another 666 people were injured, among them 291 children and 21 women.

Since the start of the Syrian conflict, millions of children have suffered grave violations, including displacement, family loss, denial of education, exposure to violence, and witnessing widespread killings and destruction.
