Kurdish writer Mozhgan Kavousi sentenced to one year in prison
Mozhgan Kavousi, former political prisoner, Kurdish activist and writer, has been sentenced to one year in prison for supporting the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” uprising.
News Center- Iran keeps imposing sentences against women artists, intellectuals, journalists and activists for supporting the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi (Women, Life, Freedom)” uprising that sparked in Iran following the killing of Jina Mahsa Amini by Iran’s so-called “morality police”.
Mozhgan Kavousi, former political prisoner, Kurdish activist and writer, has been sentenced to one year in prison, the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights reported on Sunday.
The Kurdish writer had been previously sentenced to eight months in prison on charges of “propaganda activities against the Islamic Republic”, 18 months on charges of “insulting the Supreme Leader” and 39 months on charges of “assembly and collusion against national security”.
Her sentence was reduced to 12 months after the request of the activist for retrial was accepted by the Branch 39 of the Supreme Court of Iran, Hengaw Organization for Human Rights reported on Sunday.
On December 18, 2023, Mozhgan Kavousi was arrested after being summoned to the Kelardasht Criminal Execution Office, and was transferred to Tonekabon Prison to serve her sentence.
In June 2024, her prison sentence was converted to a suspended sentence, leading to her release from Tonekabon Prison.
