Kurdish musician Emel Çiftçi sent to prison

Kurdish musician Emel Çiftçi, who was taken into custody yesterday, has been sent to prison although she has to immediately undergo a surgery due to uterine cancer she suffers from.

Amed (Diyarbakır)- Kurdish musician Emel Çiftçi, who was taken into custody in Amed yesterday while going to the hospital, was referred to the Amed (Diyarbakır) Courthouse and testified to the Ankara Criminal Court of Peace on duty through Audio-Visual Information System (SEGBİS).

The court has decided the pre-trial detention of Emel Çiftçi on charges of “membership in a terrorist organization” based on the statements made by the secret witness named Ulaş. Although Emel Çiftçi submitted a medical report saying that she has been suffering from uterine cancer and she has to immediately undergo a surgery, the Kurdish musician has been transferred to the Diyarbakır Women’s Closed Prison.
