Kongra Star holds its 9th General Congress

Kongra Star held its 9th General Congress with the motto, “We will win the Jin, Jiyan, Azadi revolution with the spirit of the women's revolution”.

Hasakah- Yekitiya Star announced its foundation in 2005. After holding its sixth congress, the name of Yekitiya Star was changed to its current name of Kongra Star. Since the revolution in Rojava, Kongra Star has carried out its activities in every part of North and East Syria for women.

Yesterday, Kongra Star held its 9th General Congress in Hasakah with the motto, “We will win the Jin, Jiyan, Azadi revolution with the spirit of the women's revolution” with the participation of thousands of delegations. Members of many political parties and organizations such as the Women's Council of North and East Syria, the Syrian Women's Council, the Syrian Democratic Council, the Democratic Union Party (PYD), the Zenûbya Women’s Association, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), the Future Syria Party and Syriac, Armenian, Christian, Arab and Yazidi women attended the congress.

The photos of women pioneers, the flags of Kongra Star and banners reading, “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” and “The more you struggle, the more beautiful freedom becomes” were hung on the walls of the congress hall. The congress was dedicated to women in Iran and Rojhilat for their resistance against all kinds of attacks for four months.

After one minute’s silence for those who lost their lives while fighting for freedom, Rihan Loqo, coordinating member of the Kongra Star in Rojava, made the opening speech. “On the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the foundation of Kongra Star, we are holding our 9th General Congress. We salute the enthusiasm and excitement experienced in the congress and remember our fighters who sacrificed their lives for freedom, and we say, ‘Your existence is our existence’. We dedicate this congress to all resisting women and pioneer women. We commemorate all our pioneers who sacrificed their lives for freedom. We see how the 'jin, jiyan, azadi' slogan has become an international slogan thanks to resisting women. The revolution led by women will definitely prevail.  The 'jin, jiyan, azadi' revolution led by women in Rojhilat Kurdistan has been echoing all over the world. We dedicate our congress to women in Iran and Rojhilat.”

‘We will hold our congress with the spirit of revolution’

Stating that they held many meetings in North and East Syria before holding their congress, Rihan Loqo said, “Before the congress, we held many meetings in many cities and towns. The aim of all activities is to break the isolation imposed on our leader (Abdullah Öcalan) and free him. We believe that we will have a successful congress. We took this path with the spirit of revolution and we will hold our congress with this spirit. We promise to keep struggling with the spirit of many women revolutionaries such as Rosa Luxemburg, Sakine Cansız, Fidan Doğan, Leyla Şaylemez, Seve, Pakize, Fatma and Emine Kara. We will ensure women’s freedom by following in the footsteps of the freedom fighters who were martyred in Afrin and women revolutionaries.”

At the congress, seven coordinating members of the Kongra Star were elected. After the election, the members of the Kongra Star made speeches.

Gule Mihemed, the coordinating member of the Afrin Kongra Star, made the closing speech of the congress. In her speech, she said, “We came from Shahba. The women of Shahba sent their greetings to you. During the congress, we discussed our two-year activities. Together, we will crown our gains. Today, leader Apo makes great sacrifices behind the walls for us. Our duty is to work without stopping. The enemy wants to break the will of women. We repel the attacks of the enemy with our unity. Nothing can break the will of women. We will fight for our gains to the end. We will strengthen our struggle more. Our aim is to liberate our areas occupied by the enemy and ensure freedom for leader Apo.”
