Amed (Diyarbakır)- On April 25, 2023, Turkish police conducted home raids in 21 cities across Türkiye as part of an investigation launched by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. 152 people, including journalists, lawyers, politicians, theater artists and activists were detained.

Police raided many houses in Amed (Diyarbakır), Mêrdîn (Mardin), Sêrt (Siirt), Çêwlig (Bingöl), Wan (Van), Şirnex (Şırnak), Êlih (Batman), Dîlok (Antep), Riha (Urfa), Bursa, İstanbul, İzmir, Mersin, Mûş (Muş), Bedlîs (Bitlis), Colemêrg (Hakkari), Osmaniye, Sivas, Meletî (Malatya), Semsûr (Adıyaman) and Ankara. After the search in the houses, police confiscated books, computers, cameras and many more materials.

The names of detained journalists are: Jinnews reporter Beritan Canözer;  Mesopotamia Agency (MA) editor Abdurrahman Gök; MA reporter Ahmet Kanbal; Osman Akın, editor-in-chief of the Yeni Yaşam Newspaper; Kadri Esen, publisher of the Kurdish weekly newspaper Xwebûn; Mehmet Yalçın, Mehmet Şah Oruç, Mikail Barut, Salih Keleş and Remzi Akkaya.

 Journalist transferred to the courthouse

According to the received reports, 152 people were taken into custody over the testimony of a witness named Ümit Akbıyık. Yesterday, the questioning process of the detained people started at different police stations. Journalist Beritan Canözer has been reportedly transferred to the Diyarbakır Courthouse after being questioned at the police station.
