News Center- 16-year-old Jana Zakarneh was shot dead while standing on the roof of her home by Israeli forces in Jenin, a Palestinian city in the northern West Bank.

In a statement, the Israeli military said that Jana Zakarneh was hit by unintentional fire aimed at armed gunmen. Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid issued a statement expressing sorrow over the girl’s death and sent condolences to her family.

Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh accused Israel of killing the Jana Zakarneh in cold blood.

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, 2022 is the deadliest year for Palestinians in the West Bank. At least 217 Palestinians have been killed in 2022 by Israeli forces, 165 of 217 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank while 52 of them have been killed in the Gaza Strip, according to the Palestinian authorities. 48 of the killed Palestinians were children.
