News Center- At least 12 Palestinians were killed and many others injured in Israeli airstrikes on Rafah on Thursday, according to Gaza medical sources

 The Israeli army said Thursday that it took control of the strategically important buffer zone along the Gaza-Egypt border. Communication services have been cut off in Rafah due to “the ongoing aggression”, Palestinian Telecommunications Company Jawa said in a statement on Thursday.

A Palestinian civilian was killed in an airstrike on Al-Shati refugee camp west of Gaza City in the north of the densely populated enclave, the medics said.

In the interview broadcast on TF1's news channel LCI on Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended his country's devastating offensive in Gaza and claimed that Israel was not targeting civilians or deliberately trying to cause a famine.

Israel and Egypt have reached an agreement in principle to reopen the Rafah Border Crossing in southern Gaza to humanitarian aid for the first time since the Israel Defense Forces took control of the Gazan side of the crossing in early May, the Kan public broadcaster reported on Thursday. The agreement was reached as a result of US pressure on both sides, the report added.
